Tooth Cavity Treatment London

Cavities are very common but luckily they are preventable and treatable!

Cavities can result in tooth loss, which can lead to severe oral complications. For this reason, learning how to catch them, prevent them, and treat them is important.

Causes

  • Improper brushing and flossing
  • Poor overall oral hygiene
  • High sugar and starch content in diet
  • Smoking and drug use
  • Low fluoride
  • Dry mouth

Treatment

Your dentist may recommend a couple of options based on the size of your cavity. For smaller cavities, a dental filling may be installed. This process involves a composite material that replaces the decayed tooth to improve health, functionality, and appearance of the affected and surrounding teeth. Larger cavities may require a dental crown to surround and protect the affected tooth after the decay has been removed.

Prevention

  • Maintain a proper oral hygiene routine including good brushing and flossing techniques
  • Eat a balanced diet and lower sugar and starch intakes
  • See your dentist for regular checkups/cleanings

Additional Information About Cavity Treatment in London

Cavities are a common dental issue that can lead to serious oral health problems if left untreated. At our practice in London, we offer comprehensive cavity treatment to help you maintain a healthy and pain-free smile. Whether you have a small cavity or need more extensive treatment, we are here to provide you with personalized care.

What is Cavity Treatment?

Cavity treatment involves removing decayed portions of the tooth and restoring its structure and function with a filling, crown, or other dental restoration. Early detection and treatment of cavities can prevent more serious dental issues and preserve your natural teeth.

How Does Cavity Treatment Work?

The cavity treatment process at our practice in London is straightforward and effective:

  1. Diagnosis: During your routine check-up, we use digital X-rays and thorough examination techniques to detect cavities early.
  2. Anesthesia: To ensure your comfort, we administer local anesthesia to numb the affected area.
  3. Decay Removal: The decayed portion of the tooth is carefully removed, preventing further damage.
  4. Restoration: The tooth is restored using a filling, inlay, onlay, or crown, depending on the extent of the decay. This restores the tooth’s function and appearance.

Dr. Khal

Dentist

Known as “Dr. Khal,” he graduated from the Schulich School of Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario in 2010. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2007 and served as a dental officer for seven years, working in dental detachment clinics across multiple military bases in Canada.

Dr. Khal focuses on general dentistry, with a particular interest in surgical extractions—especially complex wisdom tooth extractions performed under moderate conscious sedation. He also provides restorative care, including fillings, crowns, and bridges, and is a certified Invisalign and dental implant provider.

Outside the office, Dr. Khal is an avid weightlifter and can often be found at the gym after work. He enjoys traveling with friends and family and is always excited to explore new countries.

Dr. Ali

Dentist

Dr. Ali Nabavieh grew up in London and attended the University of Western Ontario, where he earned an Honours degree in Immunology and Microbiology in 1997. During his undergraduate studies, he contributed to a diabetes research project that was published in a medical journal. He continued his education at the Schulich School of Dentistry, graduating in 2001 and receiving the award for top student in Endodontics (root canal therapy).

After graduating, Dr. Ali began practicing at Southdale Dental Office—initially as an associate, later becoming the practice owner. Interestingly, he joined Southdale because the previous owner had been his own dentist.

Dr. Ali enjoys all aspects of dentistry but has a particular passion for performing root canals to help save patients’ teeth. He is committed to ongoing professional development and is a member of the London District Dental Society, the London Dental Exchange Study Club, and the Ontario Dental Association.

Outside the office, Dr. Ali enjoys playing both indoor and outdoor soccer and spending quality time with his family.
